Tui Na (Chinese remedial massage)
Tui Na, also called Chinese remedial massage, is a treatment that is usually offered in an acupuncture clinic. It is becoming increasingly popular in the western countries.
Tui Na is a therapeutic approach based on the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Following the meridians (energy channels) throughout the body, Tui Na practitioners focus on the acupoints (energy points) by using stretches, acupressure and joint manipulation to balance the body’s vital energy (chi).
The name describes the actions applied in the treatment: ‘Tui‘ means ‘to push‘ and ‘Na‘ means ‘to grasp‘. Tui Na is a combination of shiatsu (a form of Japanese bodywork) and acupressure massage.
